Reading Time: 3 minutes

Today Redfin donated a total of $300 to three amazing nonprofit organizations. It was all part of our charitable giving campaign, in which we asked our Facebook followers to submit photos of holiday decorations in their home and to “like” their favorite photos. The three photos that received the most likes by Dec. 25 received the donation.

We are so happy to support such fantastic organizations! See below for more information on each, along with details on how you can give back. Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who submitted photos and casted their votes on Facebook!

Camp Goodtimes

The mission of the American Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes is to provide a cost-free, medically supervised program for children with cancer, who are on or off treatment, along with one of their siblings.

The philosophy of the program is summed up in the name “Goodtimes”… it’s for campers to have fun.  On the exterior, the camps appear to be just like any other — there’s fishing, hiking, camp fires, crafts, laughter and the chance to make lasting friendships. They are places where campers can live life to the fullest and enjoy every possible moment, let go of their worries, relax and spend time with others like them.

Visit the Camp Goodtimes website to find out how you can contribute time or money to this excellent cause. You can volunteer to help with mailings, be a camp counselor, oversee crafts, design and distribute flyers, etc. You can also serve on a fundraising committee or make a financial contribution to help Camp Goodtimes provide year-round services and support.

Our $100 donation will provide nearly one day of camp for one camper. The donation was made in honor of Kristin Oke for her winning submission. Thanks, Kristin!

Northwest Harvest

The mission of Northwest Harvest is to provide nutritious food to hungry people in Washington State, in a manner that respects people’s dignity. Northwest Harvest distributes more than 1.7 million meals every month via food banks, meal programs and high-need schools.

With distribution centers throughout the state, Northwest Harvest reaches rural communities where people in need would otherwise go hungry. The organization upholds high nutrition standards by purchasing a significant share of the food, ensuring a steady supply of in-demand, nutritious products. 70 percent of the food it provides is highly nutritious fruits and vegetables.

Visit www.NorthwestHarvest.org to find out how you can give back. The organization is looking for food and monetary donations, as well as volunteers at the warehouse and food banks.

Northwest Harvest can feed a nutritious meal to a family of three for only $0.67. Our $100 donation will go toward feeding those families — and with the organization’s current “Hunger Stops Here Challenge,” our contribution will be matched dollar for dollar by other donors, allowing us to give even more to this excellent cause. The donation was made in honor of Michelle Cairns for her winning submission. Thanks, Michelle!

Sandy Hook School Support Fund

The United Way of Western Connecticut has set up a special fund to support families affected by the devastating events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The United Way is committed to providing support and resources where and when they become identified and needed.

The United Way Worldwide is the leadership and support organization for the network of nearly 1,800 community-based United Ways in 45 countries and territories. The organization’s mission is to ensure that all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives.

To donate to those affected by the Sandy Hook tragedy, visit the website for the fund. You can also contribute to The Red Cross, which provided more than 50 units of blood to the Danbury hospital where some of the victims were transported.

Our $100 donation will go toward the victims’ families, and the Newtown community as a whole. The donation was made in the honor of Jared Jones for his winning submission. Thanks, Jared!
