Extreme Makeover

Hey, it’s a Kirkland edition of Extreme Makeover!

From more than one thousand requests per day, ABC selected Connie Chapin and her four children as the recipients of an extreme home makeover. Connie, who runs a home business called Angelfish Swimming, and reportedly has been “unable to maintain the interior of her home for many years and it now has significant structural issues.”

The Kirkland city website has set up an information page for curious spectators. Several streets around the area have been closed and shuttles are available to bring interested onlookers to view the job site. Demolition started today (the 27th) and the house is scheduled to be completed by October 3rd. Interestingly, the timeline says that the Chapin family received word of selection on the 26th and demolition activities began on the 27th. (Do ya’ think ABC could’ve given this poor family a little more notice??)

In case you’re curious, Zillow currently shows the Chapin home to be a 5 br/1.75 ba, 2,060 sq. ft. home, with a Z-estimate slightly over $660,000. According to reports, the home will be 3,500 sq. ft. with a 900 sq. ft. detached garage and swimming pool when finished.

Personally, I’m wondering who’s going to help out with the new property tax bill after the tax assessor visits! I’ve seen some pretty nasty increases in assessed property values lately, and these were on homes where no improvements have been made! Yikes!
