Known for parks like the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge and Ardenwood Historic Farm, historic landmarks such as the Mission San Jose and the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum, Fremont offers so much to its residents. 1. Ardenwood

In the Northwest portion of Fremont is Ardenwood, a residential neighborhood. It’s home to Ardenwood Historic Farm, a 200-acre working farm with historic buildings, a garden, walking trail, animals, and crops. There are a few other parks located in the area and it’s close to Coyote Hills Regional Park. Ardenwood has a variety of housing types, like single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments. You’ll find a mix of houses built during the 1950s, 60s, and more recently.

2. 28 Palms

28 Palms is a small neighborhood with a mix of residential streets and commercial shopping centers. You’l find lots of restaurants and shopping options along Mowry Avenue as well as a few parks. 28 Palms is somewhat walkable and bikeable, but there aren’t many public transit options. The majority of housing options are single-family homes.

3. Blacow

A residential neighborhood, Blacow is located just south of 28 Palms. While there aren’t any shops or restaurants, there are several parks in the area, like Marshall Park and Rix Park. Blacow is somewhat walkable with a Walk Score of 54, but you’ll probably need a car living in the area. The homes in Blacow have a great mix of older and newer architectural styles, from mid-century ranch houses to newer construction homes. You can also find townhouses, apartments, and condos.

4. Brookvale

Brookvale is located in northern Fremont, most well-known for its parks and recreational areas. Home to Alameda Creek Regional Trail, you’ll find walking and biking trails as well as horseback riding. Just nearby is Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, a 471-acre park that offers views of Horseshoe Lake and recreational activities like picnicking and fishing. There are condos, townhouses, and apartments, as well as single-family homes ranging from ranch style to new construction.

5. Cabrillo

Located on the eastern part of Fremont, Cameron Hills is most known for being home to Sabercat Historical Park. This park features the Sabercat Creek Trail, a 2-mile loop that goes through a paleontological dig site, where mammoth, saber-toothed cat, and cave bear fossils were unearthed. Many of the homes have views of the surrounding hills and were mostly built in the 1990s. You’ll also find a variety of home styles – Craftsman, Mediterranean, and Contemporary.

7. Centerville

Centerville is a large neighborhood that encompasses several sub-neighborhoods including Brookvale, Cabrillo, Glenmoor, and Parkmont. There are plenty of shopping centers with local restaurants and parks in the area, as well as access to the Amtrak station. Centreville is the second most walkable Fremont neighborhood with a Walk Score of 69. The homes in Centerville are a mix of older properties built in the 1800s and newer construction builds. You’ll also find apartments, townhouses, and condos in the neighborhood.

Central-Downtown is a pretty walkable and bikeable neighborhood – the Walk Score is 58 and the Bike Score is 64. 10. East Industrial

The East Industrial area is primarily an industrial and commercial neighborhood with some residential streets. There are lots of shopping options with lots of local restaurants to check out. With a Bike Score of 66 and a Walk Score of 58, East Industrial is a decent area if you don’t have a car, although you may want to consider one for easy transportation throughout Fremont.

11. Glenmoor

Just outside of the Central-Downtown area is Glenmoor, a residential neighborhood. There are a few small parks in the area, as well as one shopping center with some restaurants and stores. Glenmoor is the fourth most walkable neighborhood with a Walk Score of 60. You can find some apartments, but most housing options in Glenmoor are single-family homes. The homes range from ranch-style and mid-century modern to contemporary and Spanish Colonial.

12. Irvington

There’s a great blend of commercial areas and residential streets. Irvington has a Walk Score of 78 and is the most walkable neighborhood in Fremont. There are single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments in Irvington. The homes range in age from newer builds to those built in the early 1900s.

13. Kimber-Gomes

On the whole, Kimber-Gomes is a residential area, but you’ll find one main shopping plaza.

14. Mission San Jose

Mission San Jose takes its name from Mission San Jose, the 14th of 21 California Missions. Built in 1797, the Mission is nestled in the center of the neighborhood, where you’ll find a variety of quaint shops, cafes, and restaurants. There are several parks in the area, like Old Mission Park, the start of Sabercat Creek Trail, and Mission Peak Trailhead.

15. Mission Valley

Located in between Kimber-Gomes and Mission San Jose is the Mission Valley neighborhood. It’s primarily a residential neighborhood, but you’ll find one park – Mission San José Community Park. While there aren’t any shops or restaurants in the area, you’re not too far from nearby neighborhoods. Mission Valley has a lot of larger single-family homes in styles like ranch, mid-century modern, and contemporary.

16. Niles

Bordering Niles Canyon is the Niles neighborhood, where you’ll find lots of outdoor recreation like Niles Community Park, Rancho Arroyo Park, California Nursery Historical Park, Vallejo Mill Historical Park, and Niles Canyon Staging Area. You can also find many cafes, shops, and coffee spots along Niles Boulevard, along with historic spots like Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum and Niles Town Plaza.

There are a lot of single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments in Niles. Some of the homes date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, so there’s a charming vintage feel to the neighborhood. There are also many preserved Victorian and Craftsman-style homes.

17. Northgate

On the border of Union City, you’ll find Northgate, a residential neighborhood in Fremont. There are a few restaurants, shops, and parks, like Northgate Community Park. You may be able to find some apartments in Northgate, but the majority of options are single-family homes.

18. Parkmont

South of Alameda Creek and Lago Los Osos is Parkmont. The Parkmont neighborhood is relatively residential, although you can find some hidden gems like the Pacific Bus Museum and Shinn Historical Park and Arboretum. A lot of the homes in Parkmont have retained their original character in styles like ranch, mid-century modern and Spanish Colonial.

19. South Sundale

South Sundale is a residential neighborhood, where you’ll find two parks – Blacow Park and Rosewood Community Park. The area is a pretty walkable neighborhood as the Walk Score is 60. The main type of housing in South Sundale is single-family homes.

20. Sundale

Sundale is located next to South Sundale and is also a residential neighborhood. You’ll find one major shopping plaza, Fremont Hub, with lots of shops, restaurants, and markets. There are also a few parks located throughout the Sundale area. Sundale is Fremont’s third most walkable neighborhood with a Walk Score of 65. Biking is also a good alternative as the Bike Score is also 65. There are plenty of single-family homes and apartments in the Sundale neighborhood.

21. Warm Springs

Warm Springs is adjacent to East Industrial, at the southern end of Fremont. It’s also located along the border of Milpitas, so you’ll still be living in Fremont, but close to other major cities. You’ll find one shopping mall in the area and plenty of parks, like Warm Springs Community Park and Booster Park. You’ll find some apartments in Warm Springs, as well as condos and single-family homes.
