We were extremely unsatisfied with Kathleen's performance. Kathleen represented us with a sale and then a purchase of a new build property. Things started off well but soon got bumpy. When she found out we were building a property, she was very interested in representing us as she stood to receive commission from our new home price in addition to her sale commission. We got an offer on our sale property about 7-8 days in which was great, but then unfortunately fell through on the last day of due diligence due to buyer having a change of heart. She approached us and stated "the buyers are having second thoughts and thinking about terminating their agreement.... and they are actually terminating their agreement". This was with little warning whatsoever that the deal was in major jeopardy. She told us this immediately following a meeting where we had just all sat for an hour discussing our new potential home with our home builder (contingent upon a sale that had already fallen through, unbeknownst to us). After this, we relisted and continued with showings. She advised us to drop price a little bit when we were contractually obligated with our builder to drop price lower anyway within a another week. This told me she wasn't really paying attention or dialed in. She strongly suggested we spend money on a home warranty plan since our appliances were older, but when it came time for the second buyer to sign the agreement, Kathleen stated she wasn't sure what the plan even covered. She pushed us to pay for a fireplace inspection and later the eventual buyer told us directly she never asked about the fireplace and it wasn't a concern. When we had to have a few items fixed per our inspection report, Kathleen stated "any handyman will be fine". We double and triple checked, as we were worried they may need to be licensed. Low and behold, a few weeks later she asked if they were licensed and stated we'd need someone licensed to check them off. When we pushed back, she then hired someone herself but gave them little guidance as to what they were looking to inspect. We ended up having to send the inspector photos and give him an explanation of addendum items during the middle of the work day to prevent more of a headache. Fireplace inspectors were sent to our home for early weekend appointments that should have been cancelled after already having been inspected. There were times when we felt she was working to maintain a deal rather than negotiating strongly on our best behalf, when the buyer asked for furniture not listed for sale, and appliances for no cost. The other realtor ran circles around her and controlled the entire process. She stated personal information concerning the buyer's financial status as a means to guilt us into these concessions. We felt this was in no way relevant to the deal, and we didn't need to know anything about the buyer as it was a business transaction for all parties. The final straw was when she mentioned that she told the buyer's realtor that we needed to be in a contract and out of our home by a certain date to secure our new home... which you never do. We felt this compromised our leverage during negotiations and the new potential buyer began asking for the world moving forward. Kathleen claimed she did not do this with any ill will and thought she was acting on our best behalf (which I think is probably true), but I'm not sure how it could've helped our situation for the buyer to know we had a tight window to sell. Next, we had a "build quality" meeting with our company and she was 30 minutes late- no apology; she just had us wait for her. She even attempted to move the meeting time to benefit her schedule without asking us if it worked for ours first. After this, we distanced ourselves as much as possible. She never asked when meetings were with the new house- she missed the final walkthrough on an email she was cc'd on. She was also 20 minutes late to our closing at the law firm. She sent numerous emails asking for information that was previously provided. Our HOA was not properly notified of our sale at close and threatened collections when we didn't make payments months after we had already moved out. She made so much money off of our new home purchase and did absolutely nothing to show for it. At the end of the day did we get the house sold in time...yes. Did we maximize our return or have a good experience. I have to honestly answer absolutely no to both of those questions. Do yourself a favor and go with anyone else at Redfin.... I'd sell by owner before I would ever use her services again.
Kathleen was fantastic and we absolutely enjoyed working with her! It was a journey to find our perfect home and she was patient but diligent every step of the way! She was always available to answer any questions we had once we started the buying process as well! We couldn’t have asked for a better person to work with!
Kathleen was terrific! She was always available when we needed her-- answering questions, working with our schedule and providing support. She was still assisting even after we closed and moved into the home. We really enjoyed Kathleen's personality as she provided us with just the right amount of enthusiasm!
