1. Burbank

Burbank is primarily a residential neighborhood located just south of Downtown Hayward. There are a few parks in the area like Cannery Park, as well as some local restaurants along A Street and Jackson Street. It’s also conveniently located near the Hayward BART station so the area has some great public transit options. Burbank is also the second most walkable neighborhood in Hayward with a Walk Score of 75. In Burbank you’ll find apartments, condos, and single-family homes.

2. Downtown

Downtown Hayward is the central hub of the city, home to local restaurants, cafes, bars, and boutiques, along B Street and Main Street. 4. Harder-Tennyson

Named after the two main roads it’s situated in between – Harder Road and Tennyson Road – Harder-Tennyson is a residential neighborhood with several amenities. You’ll find a couple parks like Weekes Community Center Park and shopping centers with major stores, markets, and local restaurants.

5. Hayward Highland

The Hayward Highland neighborhood is located in the Hayward hills along the city’s eastern boundaries. Home to California State University, East Bay, there’s plenty to do in the area whether you’re looking for a green park or a spot to grab dinner on a weekend. There are also hiking and horseback riding areas in the neighborhood and picturesque views of the Bay Area. 6. Jackson Triangle

South of Downtown is Jackson Triangle, a residential area home to the Eden Greenway as well as a few local restaurants. Jackson Triangle is the seventh most walkable neighborhood with a Walk Score of 63. There are some apartments in Jackson Triangle as well as many single-family homes.

7. Longwood-Winton Grove

The Longwood-Winton Grove neighborhood is located in the western part of Fremont. There is one park in the area, Longwood Park, and there are a few stores along West Winton Avenue and West A Street. The Walk Score in Longwood-Winton Grove is 70, so the area is quite walkable.

8. Mission-Foothill

Mission-Foothill, also stylized as Mission/Foothills, is a hilly neighborhood located southeast of Downtown. There are a few parks in the area, an indoor swimming pool called Hayward Plunge, and a trail along Ward Creek. You’ll find plenty of shops and restaurants in the northeast corner of the neighborhood.

9. Mission-Garin

Just south of Mission-Foothill is Mission-Garin, home to Garin Regional Park, where you’ll find hiking trails, ponds, ridges, and overlooks. There are some local restaurants and a handful of shops in this residential area. The single-family homes in Mission-Garin were mainly built in the 1990s and early 2000s. Many properties are spacious and have views of the hillside.

In between Mt. Eden and Harder-Tennyson is Southgate, located at the intersection of the 92 and 880 freeways. The area is known for being home to Southland Mall where you’ll find plenty of shopping and dining options. You can also spend time at Southgate Park, where there are several sports fields, community center, and walking trails. There are plenty of single-family homes and apartments in Southgate.

14. Tennyson-Alquire

Tennyson-Alquire is a large residential neighborhood home to plenty of parks and local restaurants. You’ll find lots of single-family homes, mobile home parks, and apartments in Tennyson-Alquire.

15. Upper B-Street

The Upper B-Street neighborhood is located northeast of Downtown. While primarily a residential neighborhood, you can find the Hayward Japanese Gardens, a 3-acre botanical garden, as well as a few restaurants and markets along B Street. Upper B-Street is also the fifth most walkable neighborhood in Hayward with a Walk Score of 67. There are a mix of older and newer single-family homes in Upper B-Street.
