Existing Home Sales
This monthly dataset measures sales of existing U.S. homes via a seasonally adjusted annual rate
Next update: Tue May 12, 2026
About the Data
Existing homes, unlike newly built homes, are those that are owned and occupied before going up for sale. A seasonally adjusted annual rate is not a measurement of total sales in a given year, but rather, the pace of sales at a given time. For example, a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4 million during a given month means that existing home sales would end the year at that level if homes were sold at that month’s pace for the whole year. Existing home sales make up the majority of overall U.S. home sales. This data is subject to revision.
