2) Salt Lake City’s thriving food scene

Living in Salt Lake City means you’ll always be near great good. Salt Lake City’s restaurant scene has something for everyone, from simple comfort food and local burger joints to upscale international cuisine. Locals flock to Ruth’s Dine, the Copper Onion, The Red Iguana, Antica Sicilia, Rye Diner & Drinks, and Feldman’s Deli. Some signature sides, dishes, and dips popular in Salt Lake City include fry sauce, Utah scones, Navajo tacos, Crown Burgers, and funeral potatoes. Despite the drinking laws here, the city also has a high concentration of award-winning breweries and distilleries.

3) Access to nature

With five National Parks and over a dozen ski resorts within a small radius, SLC is the ultimate home base for outdoor enthusiasts. The mountains are an integral part of life for most Salt Lakers, providing a reprieve from the heat in the summer and endless options for recreating in the winter.

Located on the northwest side of the valley is the city’s namesake landmark, the Great Salt Lake. It’s the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere at about 75 miles long and 35 miles wide. You can hike, bike, camp, go horseback riding, and see free-ranging bison along the lake at Antelope Island State Park. You can even swim in the lake at Bridger Bay Beach—though it’s more floating than swimming due to the lake’s high salinity.

If you’re a fan of downhill skiing, the Wasatch Mountains offer some great slopes and Brighton, Alta, and Park City, all within 45 minutes of the city. Or, in about an hour, you can be at Sundance and Powder Mountain.

4) Picturesque neighborhoods

Whether you want to live in the hustle and bustle of the city or a quiet neighborhood, Salt Lake City has it all. From Sugar House and Yalecrest to Downtown Salt Lake City and Canyon Rim, you’ll find a variety of unique homes to buy and apartments to rent throughout the city. Be sure to consider every neighborhood and its perks when deciding where is suitable for you.

5) Weather

Moving to Salt Lake City means you’ll experience four very distinct seasons. Extreme heat is more common than extreme cold, with an average high temperature of 91 degrees in July and an average low of 23 degrees in January. Salt Lake City is the perfect spot to experience all four seasons while surrounded by beautiful scenery and mountains.
