We try to make every client happy throughout the buying process, up to, and including the day the client moves into their new home. It's unfortunate that this client was unhappy with the last day of his Redfin experience. However, on this transaction, the original move-in date was canceled due to the lender's inability to provide the financing on time. Despite being informed of this cancellation, the client attempted to move on that day, anyway.
Because of the canceled closing and walkthrough, the buyer had no place to move his belongings and receive a scheduled furniture delivery. The renting "joke" referred to in the survey response was my suggestion that we ascertain if the seller may be amenable to a pre-closing occupancy agreement, essentially renting, on a per diem basis, until the closing. As a result of this suggestion, the subsequent acceptance by the client's father, who thanked me for the "creative thinking", and the seller's agreement, our client, was able to move into the home, at that time, several days before he was able to close on it.
The listing agent and both attorneys should be commended for following up on the short-term rental suggestion; the listing agent for securing the seller's acceptance and the attorneys for quickly preparing the paperwork, all of which allowed the buyer to move in on that day, before the eventually closing, six days later.
